For a little change of pace and nice springtime outing the RMOC headed up to Boulder Colorado. Lori Peifer hosted a tea and winery tour for the club. We spent the day on three tours of local stops for samples and shopping.
Our first stop was Celestial Seasonings Tea. There we were treated to all natural herbal teas made right here in Colorado. We had an excellent tour, seeing their operation. We saw the mechanical "Pallet Stacker" A robot that can stack a variety of teas to pallets in different set up's and sizes. Of course we hit the "Peppermint Room, where two minutes will make you breath easier for the rest of the spring.
Then we were off to the Boulder Creek Winery. A one woman show where all her wines are made with Colorado grapes. We were treated to a special tour of the facility learning about the various steps in the wine making process. We saw how they take it from smashing to aging to bottling. We sampled some excellent wines and all made some purchase for our little wine racks at home.
After a quick lunch, we heading to Redstone Meadery. This is wine made in the old ways with honey and not grapes. Very popular throughout history and is known as the "Oldest Wine" in the world. This little Boulder shop had a wide selection of Mead that we all sampled. We got a tour of the shop and even tasted some " in the works" Not quite as tasty as the finished product.

Next Stop - Boulder Creek Winery
Bring on the samples. Here we are learning about the various types of barrels that age wine and how that effects the cost of every bottle.
Now we learn about the making of Mead before even more yummy samples.
Another wonderful tour for the Olds Club.
